Prenatal Dental Care

Studies suggest that gum disease during pregnancy can contribute to a type of diabetes prompted by hormonal changes.  Gum disease also puts women at a greater risk for preeclampsia.  These diseases not only impact a woman's health but can increase her chance of having pregnancy complications.  Some insurance has Prenatal Dental Care Program, a special benefit for expectant mothers who are in their second or third trimester.  This program provides extra coverage for specific dental services, including dental cleanings, deep scaling and debridement.

Polypharmacy

If you are taking medications, and especially if you are taking several, you may be suffering from dry mouth as a result.  More than 1,000 medications can cause dry mouth, including many common drugs for conditions including blood pressure, allergies, heart disease and depression.
